The Pamlico Shawl is an asymmetric, shallow semicircular shape. It is knit from the bottom to the neck edge, so it is critical that you have enough yarn to complete the entire project before beginning.
Photographed turquoise model used 414 yards (377 meters) or 97% of a 440 yard (400 meter) hank. By contrast, the beige shawl, worked to the same gauge, used 525 yards (478 meters). The difference in yardage used is attributed to the spin and loftiness of the beige yarn (yes this puzzled me, too, but this is the explanation from the yarn company.)
The shaping is created with double decreases and shadow wraps. Reverse
knitting 2 sts on each end of every WS row adds ease to the upper edge. Links to video tutorials are included.
