Let's call this a Wonderful Wednesday...
Update: Knit Figures! app
After debuting in Feb, '16 for iOS, the Knit Figures! app is now available for Android devices in the Google Play store. I hope you will give it a whirl and that it enables you to knit better-fitting sweaters. You can read more about how it works here, including tips on what to consider when adjusting patterns, and a demo video.
If you haven't discovered this app, it is a calculator that will redistribute increases and decreases along any slope if you need to lengthen or shorten a section of your knitting. It works equally well if you are unable to match the designer's row gauge. You enter your row gauge and let the calculator refigure.
It's really as easy as 1-2-3!
#1 is the opening screen (shown here on an iPhone). Just click the yarn ball to start.
#2 is the main screen where you enter data that you have either on your needles or in your pattern (shown here on an iPad mini.) On phones, the questions display in a single column. and..
#3 is the custom output screen that reiterates what you entered on screen #2 (shown here on a 7" Android tablet,) then displays your new custom rate of increase or decrease. You will still work the stitches using the technique as described in your pattern, but at the rate displayed on the screen.
Finally, the really cool thing is that you don't have to mark up your pattern: the data on screen #3 is stored in your phone or tablet memory, so you can simply jump over to your notes or email app and paste the data there, then save it for easy reference when you are stitching.
What other calculations would you like to see automated? So far, the leading candidate seems to be how to make sleeves wider at the upper arm and still have them fit into the sleeve cap. Leave a comment or send a message via the contact form if there is something in particular you'd like to see.
In the meantime, Happy Stitching!!
