Have you seen the new issue of Knittin’ Little? I am happy to announce that my design, Hoke Henley, is included!
If you are looking for a pullover pattern for kids that is easy-wear and easy-wash and fits over every head, the Hoke Henley is it! Hoke is knit with Berroco’s easy-to-care-for Weekend DK, a perfect cotton/acrylic blend yarn when knitting for the in-between seasons. This design was born of the frustration of trying to pull tight necklines over toddler heads. The laced up yoke presents a casual solution to that problem, and it's a look that appeals to older kids, too. Thus, this pattern is sized for kiddos from 6 months all the way up to 14 years.
Pictured here on a boy, the design could easily be modified for a more girly look. Add pompoms or tassels to the end of the neck cord, or choose a CC with a little bling!!
More Details
The pullover is knit in rounds from the bottom to armholes, then splits and the yoke is worked in flat knitting to the shoulders. The shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind off, then the neck edging is worked. Yarnovers are strategically placed in the center yoke edging to allow the eventual lacing of a twisted cord (it laces up like a sneaker/athletic shoe). The neck edging is done before the sleeves so that there is less weight to maneuver. Finally, the sleeves are picked up and worked down to the cuff.
Did you notice that the word seam has not been mentioned? True! This design is totally seamless. Winner!!!
The pattern is written only, no charts, and includes a detailed schematic of dimensions. Please note, this pattern can easily be adjusted in length to accommodate the actual sizing needs of the child for whom you are knitting. If you need to adjust the sleeve lengths, the decreases can be recalculated on your smartphone or tablet with the Knit Figures! mobile app.
Give it a whirl! If you've never knit a garment, a child's garment is a great place to start.... all the same pieces, but smaller.
Knit on!
